The Mohelnice River

Basic information The Mohelnice River rises in Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains in Krásná parish. Its flow originates in the southern slope of Obidová Mountain 720 m above the sea level. It proceeds northwards to the valley between Lysá Mountain and Travný. Its tributaries are as following: Sihelský stream, Travenský stream, Medvědí stream and Tošenovský stream from the right; Slezina stream, Suchý stream and Jestřábí stream from the left. Krásná, Pražmo and Raškovice parishes lie on the Mohelnice river. The total length of the flow is 12,9 km. Matters of interest Fierce and rapid flow of the Mohlnice river was the source of frequent floods, therefore it was partly modified by cascades and stone fortification in the sixties. The river was used in fishing and wood floating but these activities lasted only until the end of the nineteenth century. Snowflakes, snowdrops, foxgloves and elmtrees can be seen in the surroundings of the Mohelnice river. On the river banks, there are most often alders, hornbeams and wilows. Grass-snakes, the Common Frog and the Bullhead are animals that can be found hiding under stones.
