Nature reserve Moravian

Kunov Nature Reserve

Basic information

Kunov nature reserve comprises remaining parts of an alluvial forest alongside the bank of an abundant meander of Opava River with rich population of Ostrich fern. The site was declared a nature reserve in the area of 4.16 ha in 1989.

Subject of protection

The nature reserve in Opava alluvial plain protects the population of Ostrich Fern (Matteucia struthiopteris). This type of fern, classified as an endangered species, occurs in many hundreds specimen here.

Living nature

Black Elder (Sambucus nigra), Bird Cherry (Padus avium) and Mountain Rose (Rosa pendulina) grow in the shrub layer. Besides Ostrich Fern, common alluvial herb species such as Butterbur (Petasites albus), Hedge Woundwort (Stachys sylvatica), Wood Stitchwort (Stellaria nemorum), Ground-Elder (Aegopodium podagraria), Besser (Myosotis nemorosa), Wood Horsetail (Equisetum sylvaticum) or Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria).can be found in the local undergrowth Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) and Ragwort (Senecio ovatus) are abundant in the undergrowth of an old plant community of alluvial forests.
