The site was declared a natural reserve in the area of 11.46 in 1989.

Subject of protection

Waterlogged meadows with unique occurrence of severely endangered Glodiolus (Gladiolus imbricatus) are the subject of nature protection in this area.

Gladiolus imbricatus

Gladiolus imbricatus, similarly to Garden Sword Lily, is a perennial herb with a subterrain tuber. It grows in moist meadows and forest glades from valleys to foothills. It looks most beautiful from June to August when it has violet-pink one-sided flowers. We can find records of this species in Matthioli´s herbarium from the year 1562 under the name of “Devatero odění”. It was used in healing compresses as well as in love potions. Its magical fame dates back to middle ages when it was almost an integral part of knight armour. Allegedly, it could turn away a failure in battle fields. It belongs to severely endangered species; it is protected by law even in neighbouring Poland and Slovakia.
