This is a former galenite mine, deserted by the second half of the 17th century and gradually flooded. That is how this unique lake originated. It is rich at water and marsh plants. The natural monument was declared in 1990 on the area of 0,22ha.

Subject of Protection

The refuge in water and swamp fauna and flora in a lake with no drain, created in a deserted galenite mine.

Living Nature

Given that this is a flooded mine, the lake has no drain coming in or out. The flooded water area is about 500 m2. Two thirds of the area are places as deep as 0,5m and the rest is the shaft itself. The edges of the water area are planted by willow (Salix caprea), water and marsh plants – Hawaii arrowhead (Sagittaria sagittifolia), cattail (Typha latifolia) and yellow iris (Iris pseudacorus). The endangered species such as swamp devil (Calla palustris) and Menyanthes trifoliata were planterd here in the 90s of the last century. In the lake, there lives critically endangered poplulation of crayfish (Astacus astacus), that has ideal conditions here. The water area is a home for many amphibians.
