Sovinecko Natural Park 3
Basic information
Sovinecko Natural Park is situated in the south-western part of Rešov
highlands. Its visitors can be charmed by its deep valleys and dominant slopes
covered by forests whose species composition is similar to natural stands. The
landscape surrounding the local villages has been highly deforested since the
first settlements, especially in shallow valleys of the upper parts of the
flows. However, dense forests are growing on steep slopes of cut valleys. You
can still find traces of iron ore, silver, gold and other minerals mining in the
natural park´s territory. Quite specific and interesting karst structures
occur in the vicinity of Sovinec.
Watterfalls of Rešov ===================== National natural monument
Watterfalls of Rešov occurs in Huntava brook valley. In the canyon valley
surrounding the waterfalls there are well-preserved natural fir-beech stands
with ferns and moss communities of shady rocks and fallen trunks. The area has
been protected since 1966 and it was enlarged to its present size of 71.6 ha
in 1989. The most significant species include hardly noticeable critically
endangered Green Shield-moss (Buxbaumia viridis) which is included in the NATURA
2000 network. The waterfalls are made of 200 m long canyon pass which is 10m
wide. The highest level of the waterfalls is 10 m high. Hardly noticeable
residues of a medieval castle can be found quite close above the waterfalls, in
the area over the confluence of Huntava and Tvrdkovský brook. There used to be
a water mill in the past under the waterfalls.
