Šostýn
Šostýn castle was built at the end of the 13th century probably by Count Henry of Hückeswagen (hia clan had also Hukvaldy and Starý Jičin castles in possession) or by the Olomouc´s bishop Bruno Schaenburg. What is certain is that the castle belonged to Olomouc Diocese by which it was often granted to secular feudalist as a fief. One of the most well-known chamberlains of the caste was Mikuláš of Rýzmburk, an Olomouc bishop (about the year 1389) who took liking in the castle and spent much time in there. In 1404 the castle was besieged by Polish troops and soon after 1420 it was conquered back by the bishop forces. Burnt off and destroyed it was then given back to the hands of the rightful owner. However, he left the castle unreconstructed. Šostýn castle was abandoned and was falling apart. In 1945 it became the state property. A vigorous archaeological and rescue investigation started since the thirties of the 20th century. As a result of it the main part of the castle, a basement of a great palace, was uncovered. After little time breaks the rescue works continued in the nineties of the 20th century. The town of Kopřivnice took patronage over the archaeological research in the castle as well as the conservation works which have been carrying out until this day. On the highest spot of the ruin of Šostýn castle there is Žižka´s linden tree. It received its name after 1933 by the Club of Czechoslovakian tourists. It is about 200 – 250 years old.
