Natural park Podbeskydí 2
Basic Information
Natural park Podbeskydí with the area of 125 km2 was proclaimed in 1994 in the region of Nový Jičín district in the most noteworthy part of upland under Radhošť which is represented by Highlands of Štramberk with two different parts – Ženklava and Hodslavice.
Picrit quarry
It is one of geological points of interest – a deserted quarry locally called “By Eye” where stone used to be mined until the fifties of the 20th century. The stone was utilised for building up roads in nearby villages. The quarry nowadays is deserted and partly under water. We can find other forms of undersea volcanic activity from the period of lower chalk in here. Several specially protected areas are located in the territory of the natural park Podbeskydí. Not far from here in Kojetín municipality we can find the nature reserve Svinec, the natural monument Picrit-almond stones by Kojetín and within a close reach from the quarry also the natural monument torus lavas by Straník.
