Oderské vrchy Natural Park 3

Basic information

Oderské vrchy (Odra Hills) represent the south-eastern part of Nízký Jeseník (Low Jeseník) Mountains. For the beauties of the area a natural park was declared there in the year 1994. Rich forests with countless natural sites of interest invite for a walk throughout the whole year turning into a mushroom paradise at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn.

Petrova skála

Petrova skála (Peter´s rock) is an old mining work which formerly served for slate mining. It is a grotto 8m x 9m wide and 5m tall. The drift is remarkable for its wonderful ice decorations resembling an ice cave. The icicles are created from the bottom upwards, which is caused by a special coincidence of various factors – the entry of the grotto directing towards the north and the slope above being afforested, which makes the warm air stay in under the ceiling. Under favourable conditions some icicles can become over 1 m tall. Their remaining parts can be seen long until April. You can find Baler´s windmill and Královec Nature Reserve within a short distance from here.
