Nature Trail Hvozdnice
Forests and Meadows
We left the riverine forest and now we got to a place where we can see a temporary group of plants and animals, so called ecotone. It is a border part in between two biocenoses, for example a forest and a meadow. The animal and plant representation is much brighter here.
The food-chain expresses the food relationships in the ecosystem. For example: plants – insects – birds eating insects – predators. In every part of the chain, there are accumulated toxic substances. Birds that eat insects live normally ten or more years. Toxic substances being used in agriculture to treat plants cummulate in their body more than in shortly living voles. The predators are at the top, being mostly endangered by toxic substances. At the top of the food-chain there is so-called top predator which is an animal, that does not have competitor in nature except from a man. Wolves, lynx and bears, but also otters and catfish are some of the top preadators.
