Hvozdnice Pond

Plants and animals

The marshlands above the pond and the pool under it´s dam are the most precious parts ot this private pond. It is an ideal place for breeding amphibians. Toads Bufo bufo and frogs Rana temporaria live here and had to cross the Hvoznice brook to find its´ pond. As opposed to Rana esculenta and Rana ridibunda, who never leave their pond. Bank vegetation is also very interesting. We can find Nymphaea lutea and Nymphaea alba and other typical members of water vegetation. The pond is shallow with muddy bed and is convenient for Iris pseudacorus, Potamogeton natans, Persicaria amphibia blooming in pink and Batrachium aquatile blooming in white. The roots of Potamogeton lucens are to be found in the mud. On the surface of the water, there we can see little green leaves of Lemna minor floating. The bottom of the leaves of Spirodella polyrhiza are red.
