Basic information

Even though most of Hlučín region is represented by cultural landscape, it is also a home for some rare species. Especially the bird enthusiasts will find this area interesting. Besides already mentioned Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) you can come across its relative, the Great Erget (Egretta alba); in quite few cases even Little Egrets (Egretta garzetta) were seen. As for the birds of prey, we can meet Western Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus), Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo), Northern Goshawk (Accipter gentilis), Eurasian Hobby (Falco subbuteo) and European Honey Buzzard (Pernis apivorus) here.

A number of bats can be observed in hollows of old trees and border forts from the period of the First Republic of Czechoslovakia. The most frequent is the European bat (Barbastella barbastellus) which hunts in forests or areas neighbouring closely with them. Daubenton´s bat (Myotis daubentonii), Serotine bat (Eptesicus serotinus) and Common Noctula (Nyctalus noctula) can be found nearby water localites.
