Hostivař Park Forest

Šance hillfort

Kozinec hill stands in the eastern portion of the park forest, with the barely recognizable traces of the historic Hostivař-Šance hillfort, a first-class archaeological site. It is located on a promontory surrounded on three sides by the Botič brook, in an area that was densely populated throughout prehistory. The hillfort was established in the latter part of the Early Iron Age (Hallstatt culture) in the 6th to 5th centuries BC, and later populated again in the Early Middle Ages (8th to mid 10th centuries). Celts too left their traces in the area. It covers nearly 7 hectares with an extensive central tract and western and northern enceintes. Remains of ramparts along the perimeter are visible to this day. You can view a model of the hillfort in the nearby gazebo.
