Dlouhé Stráně Hydro Power Plant

You are standing at the pumped Dlouhé Stráně Hydro Power plant, which in 2005 became one of the 7 Wonders of the Czech Republic. It took its place among other important Czech sites such as Karlštejn castle, Prague Castle and Hluboká castle. In the final of the competition it even ended up winning the title of Greatest Wonder of the Czech Republic, when a total of 119 158 people voted for it. The power plant is a holder of three records: the largest reserve water turbine in Europe, the power plant with the largest head in the Czech Republic and the largest installed power in the Czech Republic. Construction of the power plant began in May 1978 and it was put into operation 18 years later in 1996.
