Lysá hora
NPR Mazák
You are standing on the west side of Lysá hora in the Mazák National Nature
Reserve. The forest vegetation in Mazák is significantly different from other
vegetation in Beskydy (the Beskids). Severe climatic conditions mean that spruce
is unable to reach the same height as in the valley. Animals and plants also
differ. The Mazák reservation is part of the Beskydy Bird area, with bird
populations such as the Black Stork, the Western Capercaillie, the White-backed
Woodpecker, the Black Woodpecker and more protected. Because the second most
common tree in these woods is rowan, rangers sometimes name the forest growth
here rowan groves.
