Welcome to CHKO Beskydy

Střelná is located at the Lyský průsmyk pass, which separates the White Carpathians in the south from the Javorníky mountains in the north. An Eastern-type wooden bell-tower and an original wooden cottage and well have been preserved in the village. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin was built in the years 1968 to 1971 but couldn’t be consecrated for over 20 years for ideological reasons. After consecration on 22 August 1992 the tradition of a fair began (15 August). There are three crosses of forgiveness in the village – at the church, at the bell-tower and at the edge of the village, where funeral processions stopped on their way to the graveyard at Lidečko to ask for forgiveness of the sins of the deceased. A small chapel with a statue of the Virgin called Panna Maria La Strada (Our Lady at the road)is located in the lower part of the village next to the road. The oldest witness to Střelna’s fortunes is the lime tree above the tunnel from the end of the 17th century. Stories say that a secret underground passage is located here. The local countryside is a mosaic of woods, meadows and pasture with a number of rare plants and animals.
