Geopark Podbeskydí

City Frenštát p. Radhoštěm is located in the SE part of the newly established National Geopark Podbeskydí. ME was announced at the same time as the Geopark Blaník Knights, June 5, 2014. So far in the Czech Republic were 4 Geoparks: Czech Paradise, GeoLoci, Egeria and Iron Mountain. On the title national geopark still waiting for the next 4 – Ralsko, Highlands, Mountains and geopark Joachim Barrande, a Czech Karst. Podbeskydí Geopark is located in the central part of the Podbeskydská upland area of ​​530 square kilometers on. The area is bounded on the S depressed Oderské gate on the hillside in Palkovické hills, on the first ridge J Moravian-Silesian Beskydy and Z Kojetínských slopes of hills. It lies on the edge of the Carpathian SZ built mainly by sedimentary rocks of the Jurassic to Cretaceous age. This is a very diverse area in terms of geological, botanical, zoological and cultural. Here we find sandstone and claystone Carpathian flysch, the remains of the Mesozoic undersea volcanism, extraordinarily rich paleontological remains of Jurassic reef or moraines and boulders left by the continental glacier during the Ice Age.
