The Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area of Jeseníky (“PLA Jeseníky”) covering an area of 744 km2 was designated in 1969. It protects natural treasures and preserved countryside of the Jeseníky Mountains. The Alpine deforested area, mountain spruce forests, preserved beech wood, raised peat bogs and meadows at the foothills are the natural treasures of the Jeseníky Mountains. There are habitats of a number of rare plant and animal species in these biotopes.
The mountain village of Ostružná has a strategic location for visiting Hrubý Jeseník, Rychlebské Mountains or Králický Sněžník. From here, you can go to the Smrk mountain in the Rychlebské Mountains or to Keprník, Šerák or Obří Skály (“Giant Rocks”) mountains in Jeseníky. In the village, you can visit the Roman Catholic parish Church of the Three Kings, built in the late Baroque style. South of the village, there is a line of the infantry fortification from World War II, to which you can walk along the marked tourist trail with the stop „Above the Infantry Log Cabin“. In the village and its surroundings, several memorable lime trees have been preserved. A memorable Swiss Pine could previously also be found here. South of the village, there is the Niva Branné Nature Reserve, protecting the naturally dynamically developing riverbed of Branná and the adjacent flood-plain with accompanying vegetation and abundant populations of spring herbs.
Nature protection
The areas of the PLA Jeseníky that are scientifically rarest and of the highest interest for tourists are conserved in the national nature reserves (NNR) of Praděd, Rejvíz, Šerák-Keprník and Skřítek Bog and in 24 other nature reserves and natural monuments.
