The Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area of Jeseníky (“PLA Jeseníky”) covering an area of 744 km2 was designated in 1969. It protects natural treasures and preserved countryside of the Jeseníky Mountains. The Alpine deforested area, mountain spruce forests, preserved beech wood, raised peat bogs and meadows at the foothills are the natural treasures of the Jeseníky Mountains. There are habitats of a number of rare plant and animal species in these biotopes.
Karlova Studánka is a modern and uniquely reconstructed spa resort located in the beautiful nature of the Jeseníky Mountains. The first mentions of healing springs date back to the beginning of 18th century. The spa was founded by the youngest son of Maria Theresa, Maxmilian II – Franz in 1780. Spa treatment has been under medical supervision since 1785. Tradition and climatic measurements in Karlova Studánka prove that there is the clearest air in Central Europe here. There is no wonder as it is located in the unspoilt countryside on the east side of Praděd, the highest mountain of the Jeseníky Mountains, in the valley of the little river Bílá Opava. You can go and see the waterfalls of the Bílá Opava or the Praděd National Nature Reserve or climb up the summit of the Praděd and the Vysoká hole.
Nature protection
The areas of the PLA Jeseníky that are scientifically rarest and of the highest interest for tourists are conserved in the national nature reserves (NNR) of Praděd, Rejvíz, Šerák-Keprník and Skřítek Bog and in 24 other nature reserves and natural monuments.
