Welcome to CHKO Jeseníky

We have developed a new information system providing information on wildlife of the Jeseníky Mountains. You can download it directly to your mobile phone at interesting places.

The Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area of Jeseníky (“PLA Jeseníky”) covering an area of 744 km2 was designated in 1969. It protects natural treasures and preserved countryside of the Jeseníky Mountains. The Alpine deforested area, mountain spruce forests, preserved beech wood, raised peat bogs and meadows at the foothills are the natural treasures of the Jeseníky Mountains. There are habitats of a number of rare plant and animal species in these biotopes.

A town called “pearl of the Jesenice region” for its beautiful location lies at the confluence of the mountain streams of Staříče and Bělá where you can find roads connecting it via the Ramzovské sedlo and Červenohorské sedlo with the surrounding world. The town of Jeseník is the starting point for a number of trips. You can discover various monuments, rock formations and observation rocks – e.g. Čertovy kameny (Devil’s Stones). You can enjoy a breath-taking view from the Zlatý Chlum, a view-tower, in nice weather. You can be charmed by the view at Jeseník from the Křížový vrch (Cross Hill) hen going up/ down. The fans of sightseeing shall not miss a mysterious Vodní tvrz (Water Fortress) of the 13th century where the Natural History Museum of the Jeseník region offering attractive exhibitions is. The churches and the Former Ursuline Convent are worth admiring and honouring.

Nature protection

The areas of the PLA Jeseníky that are scientifically rarest and of the highest interest for tourists are conserved in the national nature reserves (NNR) of Praděd, Rejvíz, Šerák-Keprník and Skřítek Bog and in 24 other nature reserves and natural monuments.
