Branná

The Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area of Jeseníky (“PLA Jeseníky”) covering an area of 744 km2 was designated in 1969. It protects natural treasures and preserved countryside of the Jeseníky Mountains. The Alpine deforested area, mountain spruce forests, preserved beech wood, raised peat bogs and meadows at the foothills are the natural treasures of the Jeseníky Mountains. There are habitats of a number of rare plant and animal species in these biotopes.
A Renaissance chateau is a landmark of the village. There used to be a castle first that was founded at the beginning of the 14th century and that should have shielded the golden mines in the surroundings. Reevery dating back to the end of the 16th century and the Church of St. Michael of the 17th century are other places of interest in the village. Concerning technical monuments, there is an infantry log-cabin “U potoka” (At the Stream) close to the village. The area of the Branná castle belongs to the Sites of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 Network in order to protect bats. There is the Pasák Natural Monument not far from here which is an important geological and geomorphologic formation. You can get to the Pasák directly from Branná following the nature trail consisting of 14 stops. You can climb up the significant summits of the Jeseníky Mountains such as Šerák, Vozka or Keprník. Those who are fitter can follow the so-called trail of Jesenice beginning at Branná, passing by Ramzová up to Praděd or Králický Sněžník.
Nature protection
The areas of the PLA Jeseníky that are scientifically rarest and of the highest interest for tourists are conserved in the national nature reserves (NNR) of Praděd, Rejvíz, Šerák-Keprník and Skřítek Bog and in 24 other nature reserves and natural monuments.
