Town Museum Františkovy Lázně

Town Museum Františkovy Lázně

The History of the Town Museum Františkovy Lázně (Franzensbad) began in the year 1912, when a local civic association collected from the citizens historical subjects for future local museum. This initiative was supported by then Mayor, Eugene Loimann, who transferred the matter to the responsibilities of the town – the museum was officially founded and was located in the building Aeskulap No. 131 on the American Street.

After the First World War, the management of the museum undertook a major regional scientist Alois John, who in the thirties obtained a exhibition space and transformed the collections it into a real museum. During World War II, museum collections disappeared and vanished. Since 1957 the collection items started to be collected, and in 1961, the museum moved into the building in the street Dr. Pohoreckého. In October 2008, the museum moved to a renovated building, originally „Fire House“ in Long Street near the Swan Lake. Here are installed new exhibitions documenting the history of Franzensbad, history, spas, discovery of the Francis Spring, history of mineral springs capturing and many other objects. In addition to exhibitions there is the Directorate of Museums, economic and commercial section, historical department and specialist library. The museum now has about 7,000 items.
