Grassl´s Glassworks, Grasslhütte – Müllerhütte

The last known glassworks in the area below Ostrý Hill was Grasslhütte (Grassl´s Glas­sworks). It stood nearby a hamlet Wenzelshof on the left bank of Bílý Brook below the confluence with Ostrý Brook. It was established by a miller and a glass merchant from Nýrsko, Johann Rauscher. Its factor was Alois Hafenbrädel. In 1807, it was bought by Johann Anton Pohl, a glass merchant. In 1808, it got under the ownership of Alois Hafenbrädel Czech glass industry was in crisis at that time, the glassworks was in big troubles. Hafenbrädel managed to keep the operation running until 1812 when he was alreadyknown as its “former glass master”. The glassworks was mainly producing white and green sheet glass, to a minor extent also household hollow glass.
