Maple at Pasíčky
Basic information
The memorable Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) grows in the meadow in Na Pasíčkách parish near the recreation object number 111 in the vicinity of the nature trail leading from the crossing Zlatník-Visalaje to Lysá mountain. The tree was declared memorable in 2003, it is 25 meters tall with trunk circumference 432 cm.
Matters of interest
There are many maple species, such as the Field Maple, the Silver Maple, the Hyrcanian Maple, the Japanese Maple, the Italian Maple, etc. All maples, except for the Maple Ash, have simple palmately lobed and pinnately compound leaves, usually deeply lobed with long petioles. The Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) can be distinguished from the Sycamore Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) by its pointed leaf lobes and double achenes with parallel protruding wings.
Canada has chosen the maple leaf as its national symbol, as depicted on the Canadian flag. Maple sirup is a common sweetener in Canada.
