Buildings and architecture

After the arrival of the first metal prospectors, metal works and mills and rough dwellings for workers were erected in and around what is today Vrbno. Later, castles appeared on the hills, watching over the land. With the growth of settlements and villages, larger buildings were constructed, of which the churches were of most importance. The square by St Michael’s Church was the main hub for social events and discussion. The industrial revolution was a turning point in the life of the town. Electrification, the railway and steam arrived. Factories were set up on the edges of the town, and the grand houses of industrialists were built close to the centre.
