The Church at Prašivá

Basic information A little wooden pilgrimage church of St. Anthony was built in the year 1640 in the northeastern part of Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains, about one kilometer under Prašivá Mountain which is 834 m high. It can be found in so-called Malá Prašivá parish in the height of 706 meters above the sea level. There are a few legends bound to this church. According to one of them, if a girl comes to this church barefoot in the nameday of St. Anthony (celebrated on 13th of June) she shall get married within one year. Traditional pilgrimages are still held on that day. Matters of interest The church was inaccessible during the Second World War because it stood directly on the border between the German Empire and the Czech and Moravian Protectorate. It was strongly damaged at the end of the war but it was reconstructed later on to its old image except for the originally wooden tower that is now made from metal. In the vicinity of the church, there can be found a tourist lodge with a viewtower from 1921 belonging to the Club of the Czech Tourists.
