Wild Cherry

Basic Information

There is a memorable wild cherry (Cerasus avium) growing at a former forest path on the boundary of a forest and fields not far from a hamlet called Skály u Rýmařova. The tree has a short, twisted trunk for its top was broken. Its crown is wide. The height of the tree is 13 m. Its trunk is 325 cm wide. It was declared memorable in the year 2005. It reaches the top of its beauty in May.

Point of interest

A wild cherry is a deciduous tree with red fruits which can grow up to 30 m tall. It belongs to ancient culture woods as cherries were known already in the ancient times. Wild cherry spreads in bushy hillsides, balks and hedgegrows. It can also be found along road communications and in light deciduous forests. It is valuable not only for its fruit but also for its wood which is used especially in production of luxury furniture. Cherry is a symbol of education, unity and shared abundance in literature and mythology.
