Memorable trees of Opava and Bruntál Districts
Lime tree at the statue of Saint Immaculate
Basic information
There is a small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata) at the vicinity of the statue of Saint Immaculate. The lime was declared memorable in the year 1999. At that time, its estimated age was 250 – 350 years, its trunk perimeter was 625 cm and its height was 28 m. Nowadays the tree is a living complement to the cultural monument of the statue which comes from the year 1764. At the time the statue was put into place, the tree might have had a full-grown trunk already.
Things to note
The statue of the Saint Immaculate is actually a statue of Virgin Marry. Immaculate Virgin Marry is usually depicted with loose hair, her hands clasped together. Her head is usually circled with twelve stars. She stands on a globe or a crescent and sometimes stamps on a snake, the symbol of hereditary sin. The name Immaculate comes from Latin “sine macula” meaning free from taint.
