There is a memorable Red oak (Quercus rubra) growing in Englišova Street in the garden of a Primary School in Opava. It is 30 m high, its trunk perimeter is 376 cm. It was declared memorable in the year 2009.

Points of Interest

Red oak belongs to our non- native woody plants. It is native to the North America. It was imported to Europe at the end of 17th century, to the Czech lands at the end of 18th century. Its species name is derived from the distinctive red colour of its autumn leaves. Red oak is pollution resilient and that it why it is suitable for urban environment. Adult trees can bear more shade than the native oak species. Its hard and durable wood is commonly used in construction building and furniture making.
