Oak Tree at Slovaks
Basic Information
A memorable Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) is growing in Mezina municipality on the left side of a road leading from the farmstead at Slovaks. It was declared memorable in the year 2004. Its trunk perimeter is about 292 cm, it is 14m high. It is estimated to be 150 – 200 years old.
Points of Interest
Mezina municipality was founded under the reign of the Bohemian king Přemysl Otakar II on the borderland between Moravia and today´s Czech, formerly Austrian Silesia in the year 1258. The former inhabitants of the village made their living by mining and processing minerals, iron, gold and silver. Remains of the mining can be still seen here, for example in Lávový proud Nature monument at Mezina, which is a former basalt pit. Besides the memorable oak, there are other two memorable trees growing in the village. It is a Great-leaved lime (lime Kohouts´) and a Norway maple at the plot of a married couple Janeček at the very beginning of the village.
