Pedunculate Oak in Deštná

Basic Information

There is a memorable Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) growing at a field road leading along Deštná brook from Deštná municipality to Mladecko. The tree is 21 m high, its trunk perimeter reaches 477 cm. The tree was declared memorable already in the year 1972.

Points of Interest

You can find a crumbling baroque castle not far from here in the west part of Deštná municipality where it was built most likely on the grounds of a former fort. Due to poor static conditions already in the 18th century, the castle had to be supported by iron bolts. After 1945 no attention was paid to its maintenance and so the whole back wall of the central part of the castle fell apart. The gradual fall of the whole complex followed in the nineties of the 20th century. The cause of such a rapid collapse has been assigned to the unstable bedrock in the area. The castle has two floors and three wings with a rather small court. Its current look copies the shape of the castle after its last reconstruction in the first half of 18th century.
