Memorable trees of Ostrava and Frýdek - Místek Districts

Tuliptree of Třebovice

Basic information

A tulipree (Liriodendron tulipifera) is growing in the park centre next to a memorable platan. It was declared memorable in the year 1989. The current height of the tree is about 34 m, the trunk perimeter is 360 cm. The estimated age of the tree is 170 years. Because of becoming dry, its dry branches were trimmed, smaller hollows were roofed and the skeletal branches were fixed so that the crown could not break.

Things to note

Tuliptree is not native to our lands. It comes from the south of U.S.A. However, it is planted as an ornamental and a park woody plant all over the world. The first tuliptree in the Czech Republic was planted in Hluboká nad Vltavou in 1865. A tuliptree is a deciduous tree growing up to 40 m tall, in its native environment even more. It is characteristic for its leaves with four lobes which turn yellow in the autumn and its campanulate flowers resembling the flowers of a tulip. It is a fast-growing tree. It is grown as a useful tree in the North America as its wood is easily processed and is used for furniture making.
