Matters of interest

The English Yew is evergreen bush or tree, that originally used to grow in ravine shady forests and in rocky river valleys. Its suitable habitat is shallow stony wet soil combined with enough of shade. Thank to its decorative appearance, its species are often planted in gardens and parks. The yew belongs to endangered species and its occurence in the nature of our country is rare. The whole plant except for its red arils is deadly poisonous because it contains the alcaloid taxane. Other alcaloids, such as milosine and ephedrine can be found there, too. Taxanes are dangerous for its quick absorbption from the digestive organs which accelerates the intoxication.
