Kotvice Nature Reserve 1 - Flooded meadows and wetlands
Basic information
Kotvice Nature Reserve lies on the right bank of the Oder river, between Nová Horka and Albrechtičky villages in Poodří Protected Landscape Area. This area, covering 105,48 hectares, was proclaimed a nature reserve in 1970 and was extended to its current from to 140,39 hectares in 2012. The subject of protection is a characteristic mosaic of species-rich ecosystems Poodří PLA and includes ponds with nesting islands and littorial vegetation, floodplain forests and oak-hornbeam forests with a higher proportion of dead wood, and flooded meadows with wetlands and pools.
Flooded meadows and wetlands
Meadow vegetation with many wetlands, pools and with a few permanent water areas can be found within the floodplains of annual water of the Oder river and its triburaty the Sedlnice river. Species-rich alluvial foxtail meadows predominate here, on permanently waterlogged areas, there is to be found segde or reed vegetation. The edges of water areas are decorated with blooming vegetation of Iris pseudacorus mainly in spring, later on in the year, the pools´ water surfaces are full with blooms with tiny white petals of the Water Crowfoots (Batrachium). Meadow wetlands and pools are reproduction places of amphibians, such as: the Edible Frog (Rana esculenta), the Marsh Frog (Rana ridibunda), the European Tree Frog (Hyla arborea) or the Fire-bellied Toad (Bombina bombina). Missgurnus fossilis lives in the largest vegetated pools. The aquatic mollusk Ramshorn Snail (Anisius vorticulus) is the subject of protection in Poodří, a Site of European importance.
