Bařiny Nature Reserve 2 - Fauna
Basic information
Bařiny Nature Reserve lies on the right bank of the Oder river between Kunín and Bernartice nad Odrou in the southern part of Poodří Protected Landscape Area. The area was proclaimed a reserve in 2002 and it covers 40,2 hectares. The main subject of protection is one part of the right side of the Oder river terrace with frequent springs and a complexity of mostly wetland ecosystems. These wetlands are to be found in forest vegetation with species-rich flora and fauna characteristic for the Oder region.
Fauna
Except amphibians, the nature reserve is home to many other rare animal species, especially birds. The highly endangered bird species include: the Pernis Pernis apivorus, the Oriole Oriolus oriolus and the Common Quail Coturnix coturnix in the protected area. Among the endangered Burda, the Northern Goshawk Accipiter gentilis, the Middle Spotted Woodpecker Dendrocopos medius and the Red-backed Shrike Lanius collurio can be observed in the reserve. From common species, the Grey-headed Woodpecker Picus canus or the Collared Flycatcher Ficedula albicolli can be found here. Except for birds, protected beetle species occur in this area as well, such as Cucujus cinnabarinus or Carabus scheidleri.
