White Carpathians - Protected Areas
OKROUHLA
This small-scale protected area is an example of native, close-to-nature mixed forests in the northern part of the White Carpathians.
Okrouhla represents a type of forest which used to be common in this country, i.e. mixed stands forests. Here you can still see quite a few different tree species growing side by side: the European Beech (Fagus silvatica), Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea), Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus), Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata), and now due to the Dutch elm disease rather rare Wych elm (Ulmus glabra).
Old trees offer wonderful living environment for some rare nesting birds, including the Stock Dove (Columba oenas) and White-backed Woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos). The forests at Okrouhla are also home to the rare beetle Rosalia Longicorn (Rosalia alpine).
Type of protected area under CZ national legislation: Nature Monument
Managed by: the state, through Bile Karpaty (White Carpathians) Protected Landscape Area Administration
