White Carpathians - Protected Areas

KALABOVA

This small-scale protected area has been designated to help conserve a tufa spring and fen on the slopes of Studeny vrch near Brezova.

The small wetlands on this site are the result of landslips, a typical geological feature frequently occurring on the White Carpathian bedrock, the flysch.

Wetlands are very sensitive to disturbance, including trampling by people and cattle. This is why we would like to ask you to treat these vulnerable habitats with due respect. Thank you for your help!

Managed by: the state, through Bile Karpaty (White Carpathians) Protected Landscape Area Administration

Practical site management: state financed, conducted by local farmers (sub-contracted); includes regular mowing with particular attention to the small wetlands (requires hand mowing and biomass removal)
