Lime Tree at Fojta´s Grove

Basic Information

There is a small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata) growing at the edge of Fojta´s grove. A new tree and bush alley will lead you to it. It was planted by Hodslavice gamekeeping association in 2007. The lime tree used to be a solitaire in the past. It was later integrated into Fojta´s grove. The tree is 20 m high and its trunk is 540 cm. It was declared memorable in the year 1980. Its age is estimated to more than 300 years. The robust trunk was damaged by rots and a large hollow. Half of the tree broke off after devastating floods in June 2000 due to its age, wind and strong torrential rains.

Points of interest

The first written records of an old reeve´s house with the lime tree growing over it go back to the first half of the 16th century. The house comes from the 18th century. It is a brick house with a hipped saddle roof and three dormer windows in the shape of an ox eye. The reef was in charge of the management of the village. He usually was the wealthiest and most respectable and powerful person in the village. He ruled the village, took all decisions and acted as a judge. You cannot miss another interesting building on the way to the reeve´s house – the reeve´s barn. It is situated right above the reeve´s house and is built from chiselled beams laid on a stone foundation wall. It has a saddle roof and collar-beam truss. The barn comes from the first half of the 19th century.
