Maple of Adolf Jašek

Basic information

A field maple (Acer campestre) is growing at the edge of a meadow next to a local road in Libotín, a local part of Štramberk, close to retention ponds on Sedlnice brook. It is one of the scarce field trees in the region that are in good health condition. Although it is not distinguished by its trunk perimeter, it has a beautiful crown with dense branches reaching to the ground. The tree was declared memorable in the year 2006, in the same year it got a complex treatment. Its trunk perimeter is 235 cm, its height is 20 m.

Things to note

The priest Adolf Jašek, whose name is associated with the memorable field maple, was born in Štramberk in 1880. After he finished his high school in Valašské Meziříčí and theology in Olomouc, he headed off to Tatenice and Německé Lodnice from where he was later called to Kroměříž. He left to America short after Christmas in 1921 where he worked as a missionary among the local natives under the apostleship of St. Cyril and Methodius. He died of meningitis in a hospital in Cleveland in 1923.
