Moravian Kopanice

Machnac – the hill with a nice view

If you are looking for some places which would offer nice views of the Moravian Kopanice region, you should not miss the Machnac hill (771m) directly on the state border with Slovakia. Coming from the Czech side, it can be accessed following the red marked tourist trail from the village of Vyskovec.

Machnac offers views of the Kopanice region with its typical scattered settlement, but also of the hills and towns across the border in Slovakia: the Povazsky Inovec Mountains (south-east), the town of Trencin and part of the Vah river valley (east), and the Strazov Mountains – Strazovske vrchy (north-east). If the visibility is good, you can see even the higher peaks of the Fatra Mountains (north-east). Although the hills and mountain ranges you can see have different names, they are all part of the Carpathian Massif, stretching across 8 countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, and Serbia.

If you follow the red marked trail further to Slovakia, it will take you about an hour to reach a popular hikers’ destination, a small chalk rock known as the Falcon Stone (Sokoli kamen).
