Matters of interest

The oak wood is hard and resistant, therefore favoured and valued for centuries. It is the most resistant wood to all weather conditions and to wet and dry changes. Millwheels, bridge pilots and footbridges were made from oak wood. It does not decay in water thank to high amount of tanstuffs, therefore being suitable for water buildings. The oak wood has been used in furnitute making for a long time. In England, a whole era was called after it – the age of oak (1500–1600). The oak bark was used in dyeing and in taning leathers in the past.
