PLA Poodří – memorable arboles

Bartošovický plane

Basic information

The memorable London Plane (Platanus hispanica) grows in Bartošovice parish at the northern wall of the castle park. The trunk circumference of 810 cm makes it the greatest plane in the Czech Republic. It is 32 meters high and was declared memorable already in 1980. A long horizontal lower branch was supported long ago not to be broken. At present, the steel support is already overgrown with wood.

Matters of interest

The so-called Bartošovický or Josephine´s plane was named after Josephine Canal de Malabail married Pachtová who was born in the Bartošovický Castle and proclaimed as its owner in 1786. She married John Nepomuk Pachta from Rájov in 1790 and they had one son Charles. The marriage was not happy and Josephine fell in love with her son´s teacher Joseph Georg Meinert. The two lived together in the Bartošovický Castle since 1811. The memorable plane was probably brought from England and planted by Meinert in 1834, one year after Josephine´s death. GPS position
