The World of Mountain Meadows
A Place Shrouded in Mystery
How Baron Klein's forest wardens marked the Jeseníky mountains
Do you know why any mountain pines cannot be seen on the western slope of the ridge? From the late 19th century to the late 20th century, forest wardens on the eastern slope of the ridge, in the Janovice domain, planted hundreds of hectares of the mountain pine as a protection against avalanches and floods. However, no mountain pines grew in Jeseníky before the arrival of man. The Klein brothers, owners of the Loučná domain on the western side of the ridge, refused to interfere with Jeseníky's nature by planting extraneous mountain pines.
