Broadleaf thermophilic lawns

In locations which were formerly deforested and which have deeper and more humid soil developed in the course of centuries broadleaf thermophilic lawns. These are vegetations with predominant tor-grass (Brachypodium pinnatum) and upright brome (Bromus erectus), in which numerous xerophilous herbs bloom, for example dwarf thistle (Cirsium acaule), greater knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa), strawberry Fragaria viridis, Anthericum ramosum, a herbaceous perennial plant from family Asparagaceae, or half parasitical field cow-wheat (Melampyrum arvense). These plants are interconnected with many species of animals, especially invertebrates. Some butterflies whose caterpillars are with their food chains connected to certain plant species can be seen fluttering here. Nourishment of the caterpillars of marbled white (Melanargia galathea) is the tor-grass, some species of fescue or upright brome. These and other grass species are nourishment of caterpillars of the grayling (Hipparchia semele). Host plant of the six-spot burnet (Zygaena filipendulae) is bird’s-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus). Reverdin’s blue (Plebejus argyrognomon) evolves on crown vetch (Securigera varia). In burrows lives the field cricket (Gryllus campestris) who is apart from herbivorous butterflies omnivorous. Insects are nourishment for the sand lizard (Lacerta agilis). Predator in this territory is the smooth snake (Coronella austriaca). The existence of thermophilic lawns depends on permanent maintenance (pasture, mowing). If man stops to work at these biotopes and lets them spontaneously grow over with brushes, a number of species of plants and animals that are to be found in this territory probably vanishes from this area. Man’s interventions are in this fall desirable, they support diversity of living nature. In the territory Zlatý kůň therefore recently takes place controlled pasture. The influence of the pasture to fauna and fauna is at the same time being watched by a team of experts and the check pads are protected in portable wire cages.
