Along the Vlara Railway

Divnice / Arms industry

Considering the rich wildlife and quiet landscape of the White Carpathians, you may not expect to find several arms factories along the Vlara Railway (between the town of Uhersky Brod and the Divnice village). Some of them started production before the WWII; some were opened only after the arrival of the communist regime.

The Vlara railway was very important for the logistics and serviced the plants in Uhersky Brod (Ceska Zbrojovka), Bojkovice (Zeveta), Slavicin (the Military Research Institute for Arms and Ammunition; The Vlara Steelworks), Divnice and Bohuslavice nad Vlari (divisions of the Vlara Steelworks).

In the 1990s the arms factories reacted to the challenge posed by the change in political and economical situation differently. The plant here in Divnice was wound up and the grounds were turned into an industrial park which is now used by various local businesses and companies. In the former army barracks in Slavicin (now the Army Park Museum), there is an exhibition dedicated to the history of arms production in this area, presenting a range of military equipment. The grounds offer also some accommodation and space for free time activities.
