The World of Mountain Meadows

Warning!! Airplanes land here!!

Miraculous stories relating to the medieval domains' borders

Vysoká hole, with its 1464 metres, is the highest mountain of Hrubý Jeseník. You will walk across it on a path more than 500 years old. A boundary stone from 1681 stands on the border of three Jeseníky's domains – Bruntál, Loučná and Janovice. It also marks the historical border between Moravia and Silesia. In 1950, the Dakota airplane crashed on the hillside of Vysoká Hole. As if by miracle, 32 passengers survived, but five people lost their lives in the accident. The deserted mountain areas of Vysoká hole's peak were used as targets for artillery practising in the early 1920's. In the spring of 1944, it was decided that the flat surface of Vysoká hole's peak would be used to built an airfield for an air fighter unit. You can see many traces of the airport construction around the tourist trail. However, no airplane ever took off from the airport.
