Pancíř
Pancíř – the lookout tower at Pancíř mountain (1214 m.). One of the most spectacular views in Šumava is from the top of Pancíř- you can see not only Šumava but also further into Bavaria. Open to you lies the dominant of the Železná Ruda region – the German Big Maple Tree with the typical radar station and transmitter near the mountain chalet Arberschutzhaus. When the weather is fine and clear, you can see an unforgettable view of the Alps. Three rivers spring at Pancíř and the main European watershed is located just here – the Úhlava river and the Křemelná river feed the North Sea, whereas the Regen river the Black Sea. A simple, wooden lookout tower was erected at the peak of Pancíř already in 1880 and a tourist chalet with a lookout tower was open here on the 28th of September 1923. It was built in just 5 months! A seat lift goes to the top of Pancíř, which is divided into two sections. The first begins in the already mentioned Špičák station with the main ticket office and is 1453m long. The drive for both the sections is situated in the change-over station named Hofmanky. The other section is 1285m long and the terminal is at the Pancíř station.
