Kašperk Castle

Trail No.2 – Via Šumava Villages

Green tourist mark, 9.5 km in length (approx. 3.5 hours), elevation of 260 m, surface: asphalt, forest paths and pastures

A walking circuit along chestnut tree alley to Tuškov via Opolenec to the saddle below Kašperk castle and back to Kašperské Hory. Beautiful scenery at the Otava valley, Mouřenec, Hartmanice region and Kašperk castle.

Points of interest: remnants of Czechoslovak army fortification line from the second half of the 1930s (so-called „řopík“), a native home (house no. 4) of a writer and explorer Marie Franková in Opolenec and a village chapel of St. Michael. Families with prams are advised to take a direct road to Tuškov avoiding the shortcut through pastures and for the way back, to cross the bridge over Opolenecký brook, take a turn to the right behind a gamekeeper´s lodge in the valley below Kašperk castle and follow the asphalt road connecting Kašperské Hory and Tuškov. Warning: the trail is marked in one direction only. Follow the arrow signs on the map for better orientation.
