Špičák
The railway tunnel
The Špičák tunnel is a railway tunnel on the rail track Železná Ruda – Klatovy between the Špičák and Brčálník stops. It was built in the years 1874 – 1876 and opened in a special ceremony held in 1877. It is 1747 m long and was the longest tunnel in Bohemiac until the year 2007, when it was overtaken by the Březenský tunnel (on the rail track Lužná near Rakovník – Žatec – Chomutov in the vicinity of Březno which is by 11 m longer). You can see two more tunnels on the route Plzeň – Železná Ruda – the first out of three tunnels on the track is 165 m long and is located between the Dešenice and Zelená Lhota stations. The second comes the Špičák tunnel and the next one the train goes through is located between the Železná Ruda town and Železná Ruda – Eisenstein stations and is 198 m long.
