The village is located in the district of Tábor, 5 km west of Veselí nad Lužnicí. The first reference to the village dates back to the 14th century. The meaning of the village name is still unclear – it might be derived from the Czech word „borek“, i.e. a peat brick used as fuel. Borkovice is a picturesque village with typical features of the rural baroque. The municipal swimming pool offers a good swimming opportunity during the hot summer days. The Borkovická Marshland Nature Trail which also leads through the Kozohlůdky nature reserve territory is located approximately 1 km far from the village. The reason for protection is the local ecosystem of fauna and flora of the non-forest community formed in the place of the manually worked-out peatbog.
