Golden Crown Monastery

The Gothic Cistercian monastery “Holy Crown of Thorns” was founded in the village of Zlatá Koruna by the King Ottokar II of Bohemia in 1263. The monastery was owned by the biggest feudal lords and contained many treasures. It was the most important monastery in the south of Bohemia. During the era of communism, the monastery deteriorated, but now it is very popular again, especially among the tourists and visitors from the nearby watermen camp. The premises holds and exhibition which demonstrates the way of life of the monks and their impact on the Southern Bohemia.
